Accelerated Lot Closing
Individual lot timers. Lots with no new bids close early
Each lot has its own countdown timer, not just the auction as a whole. Once a lot stops getting new bids, its timer runs out and that lot closes on its own, even while the rest of the auction is still going. Lots that are still getting bids stay open longer. So if there is a lot you want, keep an eye on its timer and place your bid before it closes. Lots begin closing this way right at the posted closing time.
A lot that has never received a bid stays open until the main auction closes.
A lot's timer never runs past the auction's own closing time. If it would end later, the auction's closing time is used instead.
Dynamic Auction Closing
The auction timer extends when a bid comes in near closing
This gives everyone a fair chance to bid right at the end. When a bid comes in close to the closing time, the countdown timer is extended so other bidders still have a chance to respond. It works in stages, and the extra time gets shorter the longer the auction runs:
When a bid is placed with under 5 minutes left on the timer, it is extended by 5 minutes. This happens every time a new bid comes in.
When a bid is placed with under 2 minutes left on the timer, it is extended by 2 minutes.
When a bid is placed with under 1 minute left on the timer, it is extended by 1 minute, until the bids stop.
